Traffic began as an aesthetic obsession with construction paraphernalia that is inevitably strewn throughout the world. The brightly colored objects proliferating not only the city, but small towns as well. Although the purpose of these objects are to command people’s attention, the sheer volume of their presence inside of any given city and how they become apart of the environment of that city–to the point of being unnoticed–is what drew Alex to these objects. Their pervasive quality slowly evolved into the idea of the traffic cone becoming a metaphor for traffic in other senses of the word. The traffic that is human interaction. The connection between places, the place in-between places. Throughout this exhibition the traffic cone, and other, more personal objects, come to represent this. This exhibition is a personal interpretation of how these objects come to hold value in the way that they exist through interpersonal relationships and relationships that we all have with strangers, whether that be time, place, or the space in-between.

Alex Killgore is an artist and designer from Carlsbad, New Mexico, currently residing in Denver, Colorado. He attended Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, receiving a BFA in Graphic Design in 2019. While at RMCAD, he assisted in the formation of the New Genres Collective, a performance art group consisting of students, alumni, and professors focused on exploring new avenues of art and media. This group has held performances in various spaces and galleries in the Denver area. Alex’s current work deals with the fluidity of space and time, and the intersection of the two. Although extremely personal, Alex’s work stresses the audience’s knowledge and relation to specific objects and ideas. He seeks to contextualize these objects and ideas in a way that not only showcases his personal connection, but challenges the way that the audience thinks about the materials themselves.
